If these videos are able to become extremely convincing at scale then I think that people will start using them for negative purposes with the goal of making money.

I don’t think that fake videos will really become popular until people can produce conversation-based clips automatically. For now, most fakes are basic stills which are either modified or completely re-arranged to fit whatever purpose they are created for. If deepfake algorithms were able to mimic more real life movements like lip syncing or gesture shortcuts then I think that it will open up a whole new world of possibilities where people can create a much more convincing final product.
