Brain Interface For Communicating With Internet Of Senses

A significant amount of development is taking place digitally analyze the natural language of interactions. Language processing enables users to use smart devices in a better way with direct verbal or written commands. For example, consumer products such as Google Home and Amazon Alexa voice assistants are significantly improving user experience.

Voice assistants, self-driving vehicles, or autonomous devices are such latest trends in consumer markets. All this development takes place intending to create a pleasant user experience and more value for users exponentially. The major target is to build next-generation of consumer products where minimum human intervention would be required to operate devices.

Internet of Senses (IoS) will act to upgrade all the user interfaces popularly known to date and introduce new ones such as Brain-Computer Interfaces.

Role Of Brain As The User Interface For The Internet Of Senses

The concept of the Internet of Senses relies on communicating with the user’s senses. Moreover, the only way the Internet of Senses can be a reality is if the human brain can directly communicate with digital devices. Bridging the isolation among the human brains was a fairytale story till now.

However, it isn’t anymore. Brain-Computer gateways (BCG) are already here, enabling the brains to directly communicate with digital interfaces. Which will be a breakthrough for the next generation of smart products.

To sum up, the brain as an interface could replace various HMI devices. HMI devices including keyboards, game controllers, touch screens, and even audio/visual interfaces will have a different role.

Users will directly think and it will command their devices with the help of BCGs. Similarly, the devices will communicate with the brain directly with the Internet of Senses. A brain-computer interface will allow a direct communication link.

As such, devices would no longer require touch, audio commands, or gestures for their operations. Such a concept of interaction paradigms will create a whole new class of devices. This concept will introduce a set of next-generation products as the Internet of Senses will become a reality.

How Brain-Computer Interfaces Work Currently?

As an evolving concept, Brain-Computer Interfaces currently rely on Electroencephalography (EEG). EEG works on collecting the electrical activity of the human brain in order to predict the thoughts, emotions, and senses. However, that is changing rapidly with the integration of AI model training algorithms and sensor integrations.

A combined approach with Electrical activities and sensors allows filtering and mapping of the electrical data. Making brain activities insightful to analyze brain signals and patterns. Depending on the brain as a user interface has a myriad of doubts and challenges at the moment which must be addressed as IoS becomes a reality.

Potential Applications For Brain-Computer Interface

The brain as the interface would open a plethora of opportunities to create value for the consumers. However, these applications will become fruitful as the technology matures itself.

Here are some applications that the Internet of Senses may gift to the users in the near future:

  • Notifying the participants in a video conference just by thinking
It is still challenging for everyone to organize, involve and interrupt in a growing era of video conferencing. The brain as a gateway can be quite handy to notify other users if someone has any questions or thoughts to share. As a result, users will be able to thoroughly communicate and coordinate.
  • Jotting down points into a To-Do list
Imagine the ability to just think about a particular task and perform it. Or at least add those tasks to the To-Do list by thinking about them. Such a provision would eliminate many productivity and multitasking challenges.
  • Background check on a person with AR glasses
The brain as a gateway will allow the user to get details about the person right on their AR glasses. It could allow the user to remember the visitor’s name, previous discussions, the place of meeting, etc.

The Future To come

The Internet of Senses will be here sooner or later. However, there is no way that can happen without using the brain as the interface. Of course, there is still a long way to go before brain gateways mature and prove reliable for daily applications.

Moreover, there will be a lot of new compliances needed for data security and data privacy into IoS. Regardless of the challenges, brain interfaces will introduce a whole new level of productivity and convenience for the users.
