What is DJI Terra?
DJI Terra is an all-in-one drone mapping software solution created to assist industry professionals in quickly turning real world scenarios into digital assets for analysis and decision-making. The software works seamlessly with DJI Enterprise drones and payloads to provide an end-to-end aerial surveying platform from model reconstruction, 2D cartography, detailed inspection mission planning to multispectral data processing.
DJI Terra supports photogrammetry, the process of collecting high-resolution images to recreate an area. Users can then utilize 3D models and 2D orthomosaics created from these photos for various industrial applications like reconstructing crash sites, tracking progress on construction projects or performing critical infrastructure inspections such as bridge inspection.
DJI Terra offers powerful processing and modelling capabilities, supporting the creation of accurate models for 2D cartography, 3D reconstructions, drone mapping applications or LiDAR drone mapping applications. DJI Terra can also create dense point cloud representations of real world environments for LiDAR drone mapping tasks.
DJI Terra stands out by its ability to perform advanced photogrammetric reconstruction on a PC without needing an internet connection, enabling users to conduct critical analyses of results directly at their site and reducing risks related to external interference or data loss during complex reconstruction processes.
DJI Terra offers two modes – online and offline – which make DJI Terra an excellent solution for clients managing sensitive or critical data. Offline mode makes paid features accessible even in areas with limited or no Internet connectivity; additionally, DJI Terra’s offline mode helps protect data privacy, making DJI Terra an excellent solution for aerial surveying and modelling projects with stringent confidentiality requirements.
DJI Terra can create sharp and highly-detailed 2D orthomosaics ideal for detailed inspection workflows in addition to 3D model reconstruction and multispectral processing. As demonstrated using photos captured with a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone equipped with Zenmuse P1 multispectral camera at 80 metres flight altitude; you can see incredible detail including individual holes in bricks on a construction site!
Photogrammetric Reconstruction
DJI Terra offers several photogrammetric reconstruction methods that allow for rapid creation of detailed orthomosaics and 3D models for aerial surveying and mapping purposes. These models can quickly reconstruct accident scenes, visualize power cable equipment or track progress on construction projects as well as being integrated with third-party GIS, CAD or data application software packages.
DJI Terra employs an efficient processing engine powered by NVIDIA CUDA parallel computing platform for optimal results, leading to decreased processing times and DSM accuracy as well as faster processing speeds overall. Furthermore, an additional software solution named DJI Modify helps repair common 3D model defects.
DJI Terra software leverages an advanced multi-core CPU laptop processor unit for fast point cloud processing and orthomosaic generation compared to other solutions, providing faster results on site while increasing project efficiency.
DJI Terra software includes an offline mode which enables clients to access paid features without an internet connection, making it suitable for clients handling sensitive or confidential data. This is important for companies needing to protect UAS data from external access without authorization and ensure it cannot be shared unknowingly with outsiders.
To assess the performance of DJI Terra, a comparison was carried out with three widely used commercial software packages – AgiSoft Photoscan (Metashape) V 1.7.3, Pix4DMapper (Pix4D SA, Lausanne Switzerland), and DJI Terra (DJI Shenzhen Guangdong China). Their performance was measured based on point cloud density and reconstruction quality evaluation; computational time; height accuracy assessment for DSM height accuracy (z), as well as tree detection abilities on DSM DSM assessment.
Pix4D and AgiSoft were found to perform significantly worse in forestry areas compared to DJI Terra, identifying more single trees and their edges within tree patches at lower DSM resolutions than its rivals – thanks to DJI’s unique image processing technology and algorithms designed specifically to capture images from drone sensors capturing more accurate DSMs with higher precision than their two leading competitors.
Precision Processing of Point Clouds
DJI Terra supports all facets of photogrammetric operations, making the Zenmuse L1’s point cloud data fully leveraged. This includes accurate route planning, merging point cloud and photometric data sets, refining accuracy, extracting ground points, creating Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), extracting ground points for creating Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and creating mission reports – providing all project stakeholders an efficient workflow to quickly create two dimensional orthomosaics or three dimensional realistic models of sites than ever before!
The latest DJI Terra update prioritizes noise reduction and processing speed improvements while increasing the maximum size limit for point cloud data to be processed. Furthermore, this upgrade upgrades Optimise Point Cloud Accuracy to effectively eliminate point cloud stratification as well as provide cross-section views of point clouds.
An improved DEM generation algorithm now supports multiple output formats, including GeoTIFF – widely utilized by geospatial industry users – enabling users to integrate it directly into existing workflows while opening up options for use with both existing software solutions and third-party solutions.
Customers in the oil and gas industry now benefit from a new contour line generation feature which gives greater flexibility when drawing lines of different elevations within their model. Users can select an interval, datum distance and generation distance so as to customize this feature according to their individual needs.
DJI Terra makes processing point cloud data collected by Zenmuse L1 simple with one click and produces lifelike 3D photogrammetric models in high, medium and low resolutions with just a click. These lifelike models can then be used for picture reconstruction in many applications ranging from reconstructing accident scenes to inspecting power grid equipment and tracking construction projects’ progress. Furthermore, measurement calculations such as measuring linear distances, surface areas or stockpile volumes can also be conducted as well as adding annotation labels making real-time communication with team members much simpler!
Model Editing
DJI Modify was developed to work seamlessly with DJI Terra for an efficient workflow from aerial surveying to model editing, meeting the operational needs of drone mapping professionals across a range of industries. Launching DJI Modify within 3D modeling projects requires just one click; files for model editing including pre-identified objects and pre-processing are automatically created enabling users to complete model editing quickly and efficiently.
DJI Modify provides powerful tools for editing models with floating parts, flattening irregular surfaces, editing textures, filling holes and adjusting water surface areas. Furthermore, its multiple selection methods enable precise editing with an intuitive user interface.
2D orthomosaics and 3D models created from photogrammetry data are highly detailed and accurate, providing the accuracy required for industrial applications such as reconstructing vehicle crashes, tracking progress on construction projects or conducting large-scale critical infrastructure inspections on bridges or roadways. Photogrammetry data may also be used for calculations or measurements to produce results presented in various formats.
DJI Terra offers professionals in drone mapping a comprehensive solution with its powerful processing capacity, offering fast and efficient model editing, 2D orthomosaics, 3D reconstructions, measurements, analysis and annotation for drone mapping projects. DJI Terra’s powerful processing ability enables fast model editing, 2D orthomosaics, 3D reconstructions, measurements analysis and annotation in record time – ideal for surveying, engineering film agriculture construction industries as well as agriculture.
